Workshop
Lean Accounting
Solving the standard costing problem
Workshop Code: MW-16
Day & Time: Monday, Oct 15, 2012 - 1:00 PM
Length: 4 hours
Cost: $200.00 USD
Standard costing methods can undermine your lean initiatives, but there is another way: lean accounting. This highly interactive, hands-on workshop will show you how to use these simple lean accounting methods to help you stay on your lean journey.
Most companies pursuing lean transformation already recognize the problems caused by traditional methods of standard costing or any full absorption product costing. They know these are 1) complex, 2) time consuming, 3) wasteful and 4) misleading. But the problem is far worse than that. Standard costing is actively hostile to lean transformation. That's because it encourages the anti-lean batch and queue production it was designed for. So, while you are working hard to increase flow, reduce batches, eliminate defects and decimate inventory, your accounting systems are showing you information that motivates you to undermine your lean improvements and go back to the culture of batch and queue.
This interactive, hands-on workshop will take you through a live case study of a company transitioning to lean accounting. Working in small teams, attendees gain practical experience in calculating and using value stream accounting and solving the standard costing problem. So roll up your sleeves and come prepared to practice lean accounting.
In this workshop:
- Hear why traditional accounting, control and measurement methods are anti-lean.
- Learn how to create a lean management system centered on value stream performance and improvement.
- Find out how to use value stream accounting to control and improve the value stream and make daily business decisions.
- Learn how to accurately assess the financial benefits of lean improvement and how to exploit this for the benefit of your customers and your company.
- Hear how to approach the practical implementation of lean value stream accounting.
- Take home lean accounting lessons that will help you maintain your lean initiatives.
