What Happens When Irresistible Change Meets Immovable Resistance?
An irresistible force crashes through fear and uncertainty
Presentation Code: VS5-09
Value Stream: VS5 - Overcoming Obstacles to Lean
Day & Time: Thursday, Oct 18, 2012 - 1:30 PM
Length: 1 hour, 10 minutes
Some people resist change and some support it. When those who resist it are strongest it can be almost impossible to make change happen. And it can be especially hard when the resistance comes from your managers and supervisors. But they can be converted - if you show them the benefits. Rio Tinto Iron Ore encountered this type of opposition at its largest and most successful iron ore operation when its business improvement department began using six sigma and lean philosophy to improve its systems. However, by applying a little patience, lean philosophy and successful kaizen events, skeptical managers became positive and supportive. Success breeds success and now Rio Tinto's people are keen to engage and participate. During this presentation attendees will learn how to treat change resisters with respect while using business results to align them to the organization's improvement agenda.
In this presentation:
- Learn how to convert resistance to change into support.
- Get your managers and supervisors onside.
- Show how your changes are improvements, not just changes.
- Hear how Rio Tinto gained the support of its people.
- Use six sigma and lean philosophy with the support of your people.
- Let change improvements make your business more successful.
