See the Obstacle - Don’t be the Obstacle

Strategy deployment, coaching and goal sharing

Presentation Code: VS5-01

Value Stream: VS5 - Overcoming Obstacles to Lean

Day & Time: Tuesday, Oct 16, 2012 - 9:30 AM

Length: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Sometimes the biggest hurdles come after launching what seems to be a successful lean implementation. S&C Electric Company discovered this about two years after adopting its Lean Performance System (LPS). That's when the company discovered that easy transformations weren't enough to get its leadership to more widely adopt its Lean Performance System. In fact, mid-level leaders often saw the push for LPS as additional work and struggled to see where LPS could help them achieve their goals. Switching to a model of strategy deployment allowed S&C to align purpose and develop a common vision. It allowed them to distinguish between vital breakthrough improvements and the many insignificant improvements that kept them distracted. As a result, S&C leadership is now far more willing to participate in the company's improvement initiatives. These are lessons every company can benefit from.

In this presentation:

  • Hear why initial success is often not enough.
  • Understand what it takes to sustain lean buy in.
  • Learn how S&C Electric used strategy deployment to bring its management onside.
  • Develop a common vision for your people.
  • Achieve greater success by making appropriate changes.
